We tried 6 types of reusable shopping bags; here’s what we discovered

If you’ve been to any retail establishment in Oregon this year, you might have noticed that the bag situation has dramatically shifted. Stores are no longer giving away paper bags willy-nilly. Instead, paper bags now cost you 5 cents each. And plastic bags? Forget about it. You can’t get a plastic bag unless it’s in a box with a roll of other plastic bags made to line trash cans.

Now that Oregon’s new bag law is in place, we decided to figure out what kind of reusable bags work best. We found six bags that filled different niches and tried them out. Watch to see what we found.

  1. BluBags from RockFlowerPaper are the best I’ve ever used! 15+ years ago I bought some at the Container Store for $10 each and I’ve used them ever since. They are light and small so I can carry 3-5 in my purse…. but BEST of all, they are machine washable and still look new. I’ve washed mine a million times and carry them in a small packing cube with a carabiner, it simple to attach it to the cart and shop. I have only had to reinforce one seam in 15 years and I carry everything! I use them on my motorcycle. I thrift shop with them and I use them to pack to go camping or clean out my car. I dont go easy one them. Kids use them to pack for sleep overs. Great to carry up to 40lbs. Costco runs are no problem.
I use headrest bag hangers in my car so they never spill my groceries. I JUST LOVE THEM!
Bags that roll around in a trunk are so gross and most cannot be washed just hand wiped…yucky and heavy.
Oh I also have the bag pod but never reach for it cause the bags are small and noisy. They are not nice feeling like the BluBags. And they are just one color vs the fun patterns on my bags. Also having fun patterns help differentiate what’s in there. Or what store they are from.

  2. The long handle bags i bought years ago at Daiso. Like you said its so good for carrying groceries on your shoulder. I like it when im buying groceries at whole paycheck. I like certain things like uuuuuuhhhhhhhh purple yam.😅😅

  3. Uh, I think some of those bags are made with plastic, completely defeating the whole point of not using plastic bags. If you care about health and the environment and want to avoid plastic, actually do it. The solution to plastic is not plastic.
